If there is one thing that can be said about marketing in today’s eco-conscious world, it would be that consumers will go out of their way to do business with eco-friendly companies. With growing recognition of the fact that the earth cannot be sustained at the pace we are currently using and abusing resources, most people will investigate what a company stands for and how they are working to provide solutions to this growing problem. If you are focused on being part of the solution as opposed to part of the problem, why not tell people about it? Here are a few of the ways in which you can promote your eco-friendly business.
Go Paperless
Going paperless is something businesses have been working on for years, but this concept goes beyond paperless billing! Consider for just a moment all those files your teams carry around with them. For example, let’s say you are in the marketing industry. You have remote workers in the field on any given day and it is their task to show mockups of what a client’s website or online marketing would look like. Did you know that some marketing teams are still using paper mockups? From a Cloud-based marketing dashboard, the team can call up any file to show a prospective client’s current projects they are working on. Some of these have not gone live yet, so files on the main server need to be accessed. One easily accessible marketing dashboard is green technology at its very best – and there’s nothing wrong with telling the client that either!
Make It a Large Part of Your Mission Statement
Another thing you can do is to make your commitment to the environment a visible part of your company’s mission statement. More and more consumers, private and corporate alike, are doing the research before dealing with any new businesses. A company’s mission statement is one of the most widely-read web pages in our culture today when consumers want to know more about the company they are considering. From high-end fashion to construction contractors, people want to know what you stand for. Emphasize your commitment to the environment as an important element of how you run your company. In terms of marketing, this is huge.
Environmental Donations
One thing consumers are leery of is a company paying lip service to issues they have no real commitment to. Going paperless and promoting your green communications is nice, but isn’t it much better to show a real commitment by making donations to reforestation efforts or other conservation groups? Perhaps a small percentage of your profits can go toward environmental groups and if a consumer sees this, they may be prompted to do business with you. Look at what Amazon has done in this regard! You can choose the charity of your choice with Amazon Smile and in this way support the organization of your choice. Why not offer your customers this opportunity? Work with charitable environmental foundations and watch how your business grows!
These are all very important elements of marketing an eco-friendly business. It can’t be said enough, however, that you need to make a real commitment. Consumers are savvier than you may think, so choose issues important to you for authenticity. Go green and you will see the green. It’s amazing how that works.
