As a parent, I know how hard it is to deal with an interrupting child. They just stand there begging for your attention and all you want to do is finish a conversation, or complete an email before you lose your train of thought.
This happens to me a lot. I would have to say at least 3 times a day. However, it is not, entirely, my kids’ fault. When I am in the middle of writing, editing, or any other project I may be doing, I tend to block out the rest of the world. This is when my kids get very obnoxious because they know I am not listening.
However, there is a simple way to fix this interrupting problem that most parents face!
You can teach your child to put their hand on your wrist or shoulder when they want your attention. When they do this, cover their hand with yours to signify that you understand they want to say something. Then, excuse yourself from your conversation or finish up a thought and acknowledge your child. It is important to thank them for waiting and then hear them out.
I can wait to give this a try with my kids.
I am going to show them this video when they get home!
